]]> The United Way of Marion County is offering FREE income tax preparation through a variety of VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) locations on Saturday, April 9 and April 16th.  Walk-in appointments on Monday, April 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for FREE income tax preparation at the United Way office located at 1401 NE 2nd St, Ocala.  Marion County residents are encouraged to get 100 percent of their return back.  Please call 352-732-9696 to make an appointment.  All volunteers providing tax assistance are trained by the Internal Revenue Service. 

 Residents will need to bring the following information with them:

  • Last year’s Federal Income Tax Return (2009 income tax return)
  • Social Security cards for all taxpayers and dependents
  • Correct birthdates for all names that appear on the return
  • Picture ID including spouse’s, if married and filing joint returns
  • All “Important Tax Documents” (W-2s, 1099s, 1098 for mortgage interest, property taxes)
  • For education credits, bring 1098T and the amount paid for qualified expenses
  • Student Loans Interest:  F1098E
  • For dependent care credit, Child care provider’s name, address, SSN/EIN and amount you paid
  • Cancellation of Debt: F1099C
  • Sch CEZ/Sch C—Call our office for more details.
  • Voided check and saving account number for direct deposit of your refund (this is optional, but gets your cash to you faster.)

If married and filing a joint return, both spouses must come to the VITA site.  Volunteers will NOT prepare Schedule D (complex), Schedule E, request for Social Security Numbers, Employee Business Expenses, Moving Expenses, Nondeductible IRA, or Minor Investment Income. So we have decided to try something else…here’s what we’ve come up with.

We are going to award the participating agency with the most popular comment on our Facebook page a $100 gift card. 

Here’s how to participate:

  • First, visit www.facebook.com/911CellPhoneBank and “like” our page.
  • Then post a comment about  your participation in the 911 Cell Phone Bank program and be sure to mention the name of your agency. Something like…“The XYZ Agency has been a participant since 2005 and we love the program because…”. 
  • Next, invite your Facebook friends to “like’ our page, AND “like” or comment on your comment. The Agency with the most combined “likes” and comments will get the $100 Gift Card.
