Wirefly Announces Partnership
Wirefly, the leading online authorized retailer of cell phones, wireless service plans and accessories, announced today that it will support the 911 Cell Phone Bank program by donating new and returned cell phones to their efforts. These donations will enable the 911 Cell Phone Bank to provide emergency cell phones, at no cost, to over 900 affiliated law enforcement agencies for redistribution to the elderly and to victim abuse shelters nationwide.
“In only four short years, the 911 Cell Phone Bank has distributed over 70,000 emergency cell phones to participating agencies across the country,” said James Mosieur, a director at the RMS Foundation, the nonprofit organization that operates the 911 Cell Phone Bank. “The support of Wirefly, a leading wireless retailer, is a huge boost to our program and those we serve.”
“Most consumers don’t realize that donated cell phones are reusable and can be used to dial a 911 call center even without a wireless service plan,” explained Brian Westrick, president, Consumer Wireless Division of Wirefly. “Our donated cell phones will be used as emergency lifelines for senior citizens living alone, who are especially vulnerable to accidents, as well as, victims of domestic violence by providing instant access to emergency services. We are proud to be able to support law enforcement and the 911 Cell Phone Bank.”
Wirefly’s first donation of devices has already been put into the hands of those in need by law enforcement agencies and shelters across the country.
